I found this going through shipment today. I set it aside to look at and ended up buying it just to bring home and photo to see what you thought. My book is at work so I can't look at it right now but from what I can tell is that in unc condition it is worth about $100. I know it's not in UNC condition but for a 1988 in circulation I think it's in good condition. What if any over face value do you think it would hold or should I spend it? Thanks!

I love the spilled ink from those late 80's notes.

Are ya talking about the ink in the top corner? I know it's not in perfect condition just wondering if it's worth saving in the condition that it is in.

can't answer that but it is common for those bills to have the ink stains. I don't know why. Prior to that, the bills would never had made it out of the print shop.

I just thought it was from the bank. I know our bank colors the top of a strap and the front corner of the front and back bill in a strap before putting it in the dispenser or ATM. Not that I agree with it but they pay me so I do what I'm told.

My impression is that it came from the mint like that. I could be wrong. You would know better :)

Can't say that I would know better. I would rather it have came from the mint that way though than post mint. Oh well. Thanks for looking at it!

The note lists at $22 in fine and $50 in XF. I'd put it at fine myself. Center of the note shows some paper breakeage from folding.

The ink is from marking at a bank not from production. Good old magic marker most likely.

Finally it never came from the mint. They make coins.
The note pictured came from the BEP. Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

Thanks for the corrections. I don't know much about money yet besides I like it so the mint thing I didn't know. I figured that the ink was from the bank though since I work at one and am used to seeing that.

Yes it has a good fold down the center. Just curious since I can't determine value very well. Thanks for your opinion.

No problem kdkenn and as for the corrections guys I had to do it. May seem "nitpicky" at times but paper IS a totally different animal with a lot of different variables.

I also agree with Daggerjon at face value I'd keep it. You can always spend it if you need to or pass it along to another member at face value so it has a good home.

For what it's worth, it's a great looking bill. It's a keeper in my book, especially at face. Thanks for the pictures!

I tend to disagree and I believe this note would grade a nice VF. looks somewhat crisp from the photos. I would definetely keep it! Nice note!

It is really crisp. I've still got it while I try to make up my mind.

Guy's...Clembo is correct! The note exhibits the classic 3 fold look with hard paper breaks in the center fold areas (folded more there, thus the hard breaks). Look close and you can see easily the two fold lines left of Jacksons nose...that whole area is sort of weak. Plus the ink stain and what looks to be a minor margin break more detectable from the reverse..look close at the bottom right center and you will see it at the margins edge under the first "L" in Dollars.
Fine is about as high as I would take it! Nice find by the way young lady! That's a way to keep the eyes open...
