I dont know if u guys are aware of this. Space objects such as asteroids and comets contain precious metals. Some can include gold, silver, etc. NASA does have the tech to go there but its pricey. If this happens in the future, wont silver and gold be worthless due to the quantity of it out there

    yes and no.

Already there is tons of gold and (especially) silver out there, ready to be mined. In the case of silver, the cost of mining and refining actually exceeds the value of the silver, or so I have heard, so it sits in the ground...

Same goes for gold. There are companies out there who could probably mine gold so fast it would make the market price of gold TUMBLE - but they don't, because that would ruin their company in the process.

These materials are vastly more cost effective than mining on an asteroid... Think about the billions of dollars it would take to finance that sort of project - at today's prices, you would have to mine 2,352,940 ounces of gold for every billion dollars the project costs you.

Could you maybe use more descriptive subject lines? "Bad" isn't terribly informative. ;)

Thank you...somebody else is thinking as I do. It is one of the reasons why I wish they didn't show post numbers as some are just concerned with quanity of posts instead of their quality.

Just a request, Spider: could you use more descriptive subjects for your posts? "Bad" isn't terribly helpful in figuring out the topic of your post.

Hmmmm.....a good marketer could spin the "space gold" and find a way of selling it for more than the current spot price of platinum :p Though I have to agree with Rick, the cost vs. realized gain makes it a worthless venture.

Straying off topic to make a point.....again.....

"bad" is good advertising. Used the minimum amount of resources to achieve the desired affect.....i.e. you've read this thread ;)

Besides, the post itself is clear enough.....and for all you grammatical watchdogs, it is much clearer than many of spider's previous post. It is WAY past time to lay off spider.

So, once again I'll, did you have something coin related to say today? <edited by self>

You have a better chance of winning the lottery...twice, then waiting for a supply of Au, Pt, Pd, and Ag to come falling from the sky that would impact a change in precious metal pricing. Go ahead and pic 6 numbers.

Midas, I already have edited this once...Michael Jackson picture is not to be posted.

Jackson has nothing to do with coins

I just hope if they do fall to earth they find a nice cozy spot underneath my search coil. I'll worry about the value later!

u guys misread completely. NASA can go to the comets and take the gold and other metals and bring it back. but its pricey. in the future with the technology it wont be pricey is what im saying

Aren't most Meteors made of Nickel? Seen some deal on Discovery ( I think ) Where some guy wandered around finding meteorites (Or whatever they are called when they are on the ground). He makes his living at it. But I think they probably sell for more than the Price of the Nickel content

The higher the nickel content, the higher the price. Something like 29 cents a gram on up.

if I had a nickel for every meteorite....

Spider, personally, I don't think we have to worry about this. By the time anything like that would happen, I think we'll be long, long gone. ;) Nothing like that will become cost effective anytime in the near future in my opinion.

ok but what if theres another space race??? What if we get challenged by China or another new space bound country? This is very possible, no offense to u older guys, buds, pals, etc, but this can easily happen and NASA has had the tech to do it for 10 years, even 20. You cant doubt the human race. Once they want something, theyll fight to get it
