I have a 1962 jefferson nickel. The nickel has five full steps. The price guide lists the guide value for a 1962 FS. Is my nickel and FS?

If yours has Full Steps yes that is FS...I don't think there can be any nicks or digs to mess up the steps any....

To compare your coin to what a FS is supposed to look like - Click Here If your coin doesn't look like the top picture - it's not FS.

    GDJMSP,

Wow, Thanks for the info. Man, you don't get a much more detailed answer than that!

Being a total novice at this coin collecting business, I bought a slabbed coin (NGC) that was labelled as 5FS, I just assumed (I know, I know) that the Jefferson nickel only had 5 steps. When I checked the price guide it said FS and I was pretty jazzed at the rated value. Of course, now I know, that the coin isn't an FS. I realize that a coin is only valued at what someone will pay for it, but is there any kind of a guide that will tell what a 5FS coin is worth?
