Hi everyone. In Finland someone has placed US Silver Eagle Dollar 2006 MS 70 to auction. I thought obviously it would be NGC or PCGS. I placed my bid and later on while checking some other items on this auction I found out that this coin wasn't neither of those instead it was issued by THE MERRICK MINT. Then i started to search some information about this coin and obviously there wasn't any. Therefore I have some doubts (well more than some) that this coin doesn't exist. It seems to me that this Merrick mint only operate with nonsense stuff like colorized coins etc. I wonder if I can withdraw my bid... Here is the link if someone has any interest on that http://www.huuto.net/fi/showitem.php3?itemid=96769334 Thanx in advance everyone, Jouni
but it's not an eBay bid... I would say that you have to consult the auction site's rules. This is a clear lesson in look before you leap. NEVER bid on anything unless you are willing to complete the transaction. The mistake was yours and legally, you are liable for your offer, but this doesn't even look to be an auction site run in the US, so US law won't apply regardless. Best to check out the terms of service of the auction site and do what they say. Most sites have a procedure for bid retraction. I hope this one does for your sake.
Ok thanx guys. Obviously it was my mistake no doubt about it. Good and presumably expensive lesson 4 me. Anyway I didn't see any comments when it comes to this coin. I know Double Eagle by fame but this one is supposed to be a Double Eagle Merrick Mint 70 MS First Strike. This coin doesn't really exist right?
You are buying a 2006 ASE or American Silver Eagle. The double eagle refers to old gold coins. There was a: Quarter eagle - $2.50 face value Half Eagle - $5.00 face value Eagle (single) - $10.00 face value Double Eagle - $20.00 face value. These stopped circulating in the 1920's.
Yes sorry I meant Silver Eagle. Anyway NGC or PCGS are the only serious options I suppose, not Merrick Mint.
The Merrik Mint has been producing slabs since about 2002 but they are basically a self slabber. They are a company that specializes in selling overpriced novelty items to the knowledgeable, and they do their own slabbing of their own coins. They do not accept outside submissions. Take their grades with a grain of salt, about a ten pound grain.
