I guessed they slabbed it 66, a very clean coin overall. Based on the pics the luster seems lacking, that combined with the hit on the eagle's neck and the mishaped 1 in the date should hold back from a 67. Those things, and the weak reverse, would hold it to a 65 if I were grading.
I believe the top (original) coin is a MS-65 but there is too much glare on the second one for me to really determine a grade! However, I would venture the NGC gave it the same grade as the top coin. Has anyone else noticed how crooked the Rays are to the right of the Eagle...especially the ones from the second "L" in DOLLAR to the last Ray??? I will have to check some more of these dated Peace Dollars as well as other dates! Frank
Well congratulations to most of the members that guessed this coin right. I would also like to point out that Doug graded the coin a 65, but he guessed NGC gave it a 66. Don't you wish they graded this conservatively all the time Doug? As for the second coin: Now I own a PQ MS65 and an average MS66. I think I might sell the MS66 after I study each coin to decide which one I like better.
I would word it differently - I wish they graded that accurately all the time. Like they used to do. Post a pic of the other side of the slab, I'd like to see if I can pin down the when.
