Looking for an idea of where they would grade and value. They are part of a large collection I have, but I know very little about coins
Need pictures of the back to tell, but I'd say F-15 for the top, and G-6 or VG for the bottom. Probably over $4000 for the top one if problem free, $2400 for the bottom. If they're real.
They were both bought in the 1970s, were "fakes" around then? Is it something a appraiser would have caught, they were appraised by a John W. Gresham in the early 90s. If I want to resale, should I have them graded, and by who... is it $$ worth it to do so?
Well, I'll say this much, I think this is the first time in my life I've ever heard the terms, "Couple," and "1893-S Morgans," used in the same sentence. They look like the McCoy to me, though. Need to see the reverses, though...
Fakes have been around since shortly after they were made. And it would definitely be worth having them slabbed if you want to sell for that will establish authenticity. NGC or PCGS would be my recommendation. Otherwise, the vast majority of potential buyers will be skeptical and shy away. You don't buy these coins raw if you have any sense.
