While searching some 1946s cents for s/d variety, I came across one where the s was higher and closer to the 4. All of the rest were like the one on the right. Is this unusal, or just a different die with a hand punched mint mark located differently?
I'm not gonna judge or anything. I will say that I've seen a few of them rescently and I just passed em by. I'm sure the answer will pop up on this sight though. Mark
During that era, all mint marks were hand stamped. They could wind up anywhere and occasionally any which way. I have seen some hitting the numerals. So, no, neither is unusual.
Thanks, I figured that what is was. This would not be acceptable in todays industry. Imagine, doing something by hand, which requires a job, when you could use high technology and be error free. Boring!
