Can anyone share with me the specs on this coin. Is is actually silver? Fine or Sterling? Mintage, weight, diameter, etc.... and anything else you can think of. I searched for the past hour on the internet and couldn't find any specs. Thanks.
Found this Joe....Don't know if it helps. http://74.125.47.101/translate_c?hl...=UTF-8&usg=ALkJrhjwHTD5G2oYQqrB6wZ7_xcXgcWjLA
Well, Ken... you just pointed out something. THe first thing I said was WOW! That proof took a beating. Then I saw where it was a Copper-nickel strike. There were many links to ebay listings in the UK that had this same coin posted as Silver proof. Now I need to find out did they make a silver one and a CuNi one? Interesting. I can definitely tell you that this is not a clad. Thanks for the info.
According to Krause KM#25 is a cu-ni, mintage 70,000; and KM#25a is a 15,000-mintage proof of the same design in Sterling silver - 28.28g, .8411 ASW. Both are 38.5 mm. If I were a betting man I'd say the one pictured is the silver proof version.
Just one I picked up for $5... not bad huh? My local coin shop has their weekly bid board. So I go down there usually on a Saturday and place my max bids on some coins. I go after all the silver and gold and I usually place lowball bids. Sometimes I win and most times I don't. I got this coin a while back, but today was such a quiet day that I spent most of it doing "research" on some coins I have always wondered about. I will be posting some more if I can only get my camera to communicate with my computer. I got some new virus software and it is blocking my camera for some reason.
