maybe it is because of the small pictures but how did this get a 61? seems to be more like a 63. Nice coin
Doug, I don't know who is worse..... my second grade teacher or you! LOL! Looks like a bad English paper!
ill tell you more when i have the coin in hand but most of those look like dirt/play of light on the pic and not wear the only 2 places where i think it may potentially be wear is near the R on the obverse and the spot you circled in between the one rupee on the reverse. The spot next to the kings crown on the reverse will also be something very interesting to look at as a lot of coins of the later years have spots like that straight from the mint and it does not indicate wear just a defect in the manufacturing process (till 1990) but this is the first time i have ever seen such a thing with Edward so it will be quite interesting to see if its something that originated with Edward or not. however if NGC wish to remain consistent then that should have got a 63 (if mohur then 65) not that i agree with those grades. we are recently seeing a very bad dilution in grades given out by NGC (with their new slabs) and if it continues like this i might soon add them to the B list with ANACS. However, what might have gone in favor of the coin is that its very rare to find a half rupee coin of Edward in that condition but still i am not in favor of bumping grades if its a 55 call it that and if its a 63 submission by spock than make it a 63 submission by anyone. Also i find that the third side of the coin reveals a lot about coins from india and everyone should look at the edge of the coin before buying it will basically give you the DNA of the coin from its birth
er a 64? 5 and 6 GD 5 and 6. but if it was really a 64 or a 65 would they grade it a 70? maybe its time i submitted all my nice coins to NGC for a few points upgrade. BTW i lost he coin that mattered the most so ..... but no worries this was a bargain basement buy
I forgot to mention GD do spend a few minutes with indian coins if you can spare the time the research and the grading is pathetic IMHO its where the us was in 1850 and the hobby would benefit greatly by your active participation and thoughts and believe me whrn i tell you your wonderboy cant hold up a candle to you coz he just doesnt have it for indian coins
My dumb Q: are any 1/2 rupee more expensive than a rupee (same year/grade etc)? similar to some of the half dollar being more expensive than the dollar coin? thx for sharing spock.. since i dont have any of these i am privileged to atleast see the pics
here are some other recent coins from ngc (not spock owned) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&item=290290055520 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&item=290290055269 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&item=290290054826 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&item=290290055269 there that should do it
