New PCGS coin has some goop coming out the side??? picture inside

I just got this coin of a seller on ebay. its a coin from the 2006 ASE anniversy set.

this one has a hard glob of goop on the edge which I presume is a glue. I have many pcgs coins and have never seen this. Should i be concerned?
will this effect the value / resale ability of the coin? Anyone ever seen this?

I've seen this several times, and I think it relates to their sealing technology. It usually appears as an opaqueness on the border of the slab. If it's actually leaking out the side, it could be a holder that's glued back together, but I doubt it.

Is it just there or does it appear on other parts of the slab as well.

 

As long as fit fits into your PGCS storage box...no biggie.

 

To the best of my knowledge, PCGS nor any of the other major TPGs use glue.
Too much of a chance of something going wrong.
They use ultra-sonics to seal the slabs.
Very high frequency sound that quickly melts the plastic.
From what I saw it only takes a second or two to do the job.
What you are seeing is plastic that was once melted.

 

If too much pressure is placed upon the slab during the welding it is possible for some of the molton plastic to be extruded out of the side.

 

its just there.

 

I have seen this before as well. I have seen one other piece that was very similar to this... It is a byproduct of the sealing process. Maybe left in too long?? maybe too much pressure???... im not sure... but I do know its nothing to worry about.

Good old alphabet boys - gotta love that plastic huh?
The only thing I hate worse than ruining a coin with plastic is paying one cent more for a ABC graded coin - I just love to take a pair of pliers and snap the corner off of them then open them up with a pairing knife - It's just like shucking an oyster, got to love it!
