Help identifying Mexico 1933 Peso overdate Hello all, Below are photos of an apparent overdate for a Mexico 1933 Peso. I received no replys in the World Coin forum, so thought I would try here. Having never seen a 1933/2 variety, I am not sure if this is it. This has a pretty clear "something" under the first "3", NOT the last "3" as I assume a 1933/2 would have. PLUS, although the only numeral I can think of that would have a flat bottom like this is a "2", but if so where is the rising part of the lower left hand corner of the "2"? Don't see it coming across the lower left open part of the "3". However, there does appear to be a clear curve rising on the right side of the flat bar (starting up inside the lower right-hand curl of the "3" and disappearing behind it). I see nothing under the last "3". Two examples of the date are shown with two different lighting angles. Any help identifying what this is would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
This is not the 1933/2. This one looks like a die chip as suggested. It is evidenced by the slight evidence of a minor die break extending from that part of the 3 going toward the 9. I might also suggest (As I am not sure how the digits were added to these hubs or dies) that it might be a 3 over an inverted 3. Thanks, Bill
This is really, really old news--but for the sake of education, there is a match on Heritage attributed as the 1933/2--see below. I think it's reasonable to suspect what's seen could be the horizontal stroke of the 2 remaining. Personally, I think such a straight and crisply beveled mark is more indicative of a tool or punch than a die chip. And it's not uncommon to have the overdate visible on the second digit when a die blunder is fixed or a die is reused from a prior decade--and mints do save dies this long.
