Anyone from the NYC area go to this show? I used to go years ago, but it got to the point there wasnt much collector material. Either low end stuff or slabbed only coins. Its this weekend and I thought I might go if weather is good. Any comments on how its been in the last year or two.... Jim
I haven't been there in years, but I may go this summer. There are some better dealers there, and a lot of high end stuff.
To Anyone Who Goes: Please report on the nature of the show: - Day and time you attended (ex. Sat 1000-1200) - Number of coin dealers (approx.) - Number of stamp dealers (approx.) - Attendence (light/moderate/heavy) - Attendence (as compared to the past) - Material offered (in general) - Other impressions (ex. lots looking but not much buying; dealers have time to chat; etc.) - Anything else I'm trying to get a feeling for the overall coin market. Live shows are a good barometer.
I went there two years ago, and I was faced with an extraordinary crowd of inconsiderate people It was simply atrocious.
It made me decide two things 1. I am thankful that I do not live in New York City, and 2. I'm never going back there. My local coin dealer will suffice.
I went there last year and picked up a few things at good prices. The thing i noticed about the show was that there were alot of high grade pieces for sale and not alot of your average collector priced items.I liked looking at all the high end stuff like the csa morgan collections and all the nice 1921 peace dollars and i cant forget the guy who had all the really nice buffalo nickles but i didnt see much of what i collect.i did find 2 guys who were selling a bunch of nice cents and my son picked a few out for his collection.I ended up with some supplies and 1 eisenhower dollar i needed for my set.It was also smaller than i thought it would be when i went.
Stop off and see Ed Duran, he has some great stuff, and reasonable prices. Tell him that Frank said hello (and he may double the prices).
