I'm new to the sight but heard all answers were here. I wondering what do I need to get detailed pics of errors? I've got a nice 70s lincoln but haven't been able to get a good detailed pic to post. Any help would be appreciated.
Look for a macro mode on your camera, usually a picture of a little flower. You will also want to use a tripod because the slightest of movement will make the picture quite blurry. Hit the coin with plenty of light, turn the flash off, then start playing around with settings. Ive noticed that the height from the coin to the lens also makes a huge difference. My camera, it may take awesome pictures at one height, but if I were to move the camera just a half ince in either direction, the pictures become more and more blurry. Anyhow, its more or less a keep playing with settings, and a few other conditions type thing.
You should buy a copy of Numismatic Photography by Mark Goodman. It has lots of good information for beginner coin photographers.
