Hello all. My 11 year old son has been begging me to post this coin to see 'if it's worth anything'. I think it's just a peso...just curious and anxious also to settle my sons curiosity.

It is just a peso, they don't even list a value for circulated examples. BU is a bit over $2.00.

Made from stainless steal and brass if memory serves, worth around 14-15cents

At least it's worth something, shaggy. My 12 y/o found a 1988 Mexican 500 Peso the rejectors missed in a bag of halves. Mexico revalued its cash and coin in 1993, we found out...it's worth a whopping $.04 USD, now. But that's better than Europe. There, you'll only get $.03 for it. :)

Yep, the MXN replaced MXP in 1993 at an exchange rate of 1/1000. A lot of the 80’s and 90’s coins got melted down and recycled so he should keep it. I don’t think there was as much hoarding and collecting of the modern Mexican coins, unlike in the Euro exchange.

Hey thanks! He was just keeping it as a novelty item. To think it may also have some collector-significance for the reasons stated is good to know.
