I found a penny in the coins that I inherted from my dad. I have never seen it before, it is hard to make out because it is not in good shape. Here is a discription of what I can make out of it. Front: All I can make out is an Indian Head Back: Says One Cent in the middle with wreath on both sides. On the top were the wreath meets is a shield with strips and what I think says USA. Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Rhonda Murphy
It is very hard to make out because it is very worn. How long ago were they put out? It looks like it starts with an 18 but like I said it is very hard to make out. Rhonda
Unfortunately, in the condition you describe, it really has no numismatic value, unless close examination under a microscope enables you to determine the date. Then, if and only if it's an 1877 it could probably be sold for $50-75, as a G4 (which requires a clear date) is listed in the Redbook at over $400.
