Moderns that have held after 5/10 yrs: 2008 Rev of 2007 Silver Eagle, 2009 Ultra High Relief, but generally most tank by 50 plus percent.
I bought my UHR 1.5 years ago at melt +$40. I don't think they sold from the mint or on Ebay shortly after at that. Was the ASE sold on purpose, or was it a variety buyers didn't expect?
Btw @Casman you could be right other could buy these to slab and flip. Still, they wouldn't be the final owners taking the risk, right? That is whom we are worried about. If someone wishes to pay $12k more power to them. I get the stink eye from my wife for what I buy. I never judge any collector and what they wish to collect. I simply worry about them overpaying long term and falling for the hype.
I don’t think these are bought for investment. Some people just buy stuff. Could be the TV hucksters, who knows. As far as worrying about others... My buddy bought a Lexus years ago. I think it was like $85K. I got a car and only paid $28K. I didn’t worry about him one bit.
Then it's probably better for people who view themselves as the gate keepers of other peoples money to just leave the hobby or ignore everything entirely. Even multi million ultra rarities don't always sell for what they were purchased for. Point being no one is selling their house to invest or buy these. People buy what they like and if they have the means to do so there's no reason to be their guardian or worry how they spend their money.
Most of us here are collectors, and discussing what is best for fellow collectors. I have already said I do not judge or care how someone spends their money, we are simply trying to help them get best value for their money. You, on the other hand, seem to advocate for collectors spending as much money as possible to TPGs, dealers, etc. I will ask you for the 14th time, (at least), How do you make your money sir? I think CT deserves to know any vested interests you have. I have already declared I make nothing from coin collecting, being only a collector. Btw, what kind of collector says I should just "leave the hobby"? Sounds like a grumpy ass dealer who doesn't care about the hobby and is simply trying to sucker as many newbies in to fleece as possible. I have been around coin collecting 45 years. I think I have demonstrated my knowledge in nearly every section of CT over the last decade. True, I am mainly in the ancient section now, being my main active area beside colonial paper money, but to tell a coin collector he should leave the hobby because you disagree with him? Horrible. I do not know of any real collectors that would ever advocate that to another collector.
I said "Then it's probably better for people who view themselves as the gate keepers of other peoples money to just leave the hobby or ignore everything entirely. Even multi million ultra rarities don't always sell for what they were purchased for." because you had expressed that you were worried about how others spend their money and what others like. If you want to try and twist it into something it's not go right ahead as I see you did. No one should be getting stressed because people like something they don't. I also find it rather enlightening that many who always trash popular moderns self admit they don't collect them
I understand that the Mint will be producing the "old" version of the ASE at the beginning of 2021 and the the "new" version of the ASE will be produced later. I have the ASE Proof in my enrollment. Will I get the "old" version of the ASE or the "new" version of the ASE, or both? I'm sure there will be a lot of buyers for both of them as they are special as two versions of the "W" 2021 will be produced.
Proclamation 2714 My Dad enlisted in the Navy when he turned 18, in 1946. He's "officially" a WWII vet. Never saw combat, unlike his brother, but that doesn't diminish his service.
I seen craigslist on the bottom of the map but am wondering if you posted it on craigslist or is it another person's listing.
OK, here we go...the coins sold from the mint for $2,683 and within days the buyer is selling for $14,000...AND on Craigslist...OMG
Or, 1945 people just made 7 to $9k profit off of their mint purchase if they were lucky enough to buy one in the first 7 minutes it went on sale and the website actually let you order and pay for it while everyone else was bogged down or their IP address temporarily locked while they sold out.
