And they've only been issued for ten Fed districts so far, too--there haven't been any I's or J's released. Now that it's no longer 2008, I'm wondering whether those are ever going to come out at all....

The H's were issued in a two-note "lucky money" set that included both the H2008xxxxD and also a matching H8888xxxxC. Separately, the BEP has just recently released a three-note "lucky money" set that includes a $2 H8888xxxxE (plus a matching $1 and $5 from circulation-issue ranges).

So there are now twelve collector-only blocks of 2003A $2's that've been issued in single-note form: AD through LD except no ID or JD, plus HC and HE.

Then there's also the BB block issued in uncut sheets. And there are also uncut sheets from the EA, GA, IA, JA, and LA blocks, but those blocks are available in circulation too.

I *think* that that's all of the 2003A $2 special printings to date. Wonder what the BEP will think of next....

So why doesn't the Fed dump the Dollar bill in favor of the Dollar Coin and make the Deuce the lowest denomination bill? Keeps Crane and Co happy with paper contracts to the BEP because theirs a new note to get replaced every 1.5 years due to wear and tear.

    2 dollar Bill

I have a 2 dollar bill....very old but no date observable on the bill. It has H J Speelman Treasurer on the bill. I've tried googling the Treasurer but do not know the date of his service to the U.S. so not able to determine the issue date. Can anyone help? Thanks

Speelman was in office from 1922 to 1927. If your bill has Jefferson on it, then it's a Series 1917 U.S. Note; if it has Washington, then it's a Series 1899 Silver Certificate. (Both designs were in use, with other signatures, before Speelman ever came along, hence the earlier series dates.)

They *do* print them for general circulation. Ask for them at your bank--and if they don't have them, ask them to order some. The Federal Reserve has plenty of $2's sitting around just waiting to be ordered, and the BEP prints more of them whenever that supply runs low.... There's nothing else the government can do besides wait for people to decide to use them more often.

And they are getting used more and more. I used one in one of the automatic checkout lanes in Wally World this morning, so they are resetting their machines to take them. I always get them when I get cash at the bank, they are fun to spend and a lot of people like getting them.

I used to order a pack of them from my bank about every month, or whenever I ran out of them. Then the bank informed me that they can no longer order and less than $1000 worth at a time. That was a bit more than I wanted to invest at any one time so now i just get 5 or 10 at a time, depending on how many the teller happens to have. I also get all the Susie B's, Sac's and Kennedys that I can. I love it when I go to the coffee shop and hand the teen clerk a Sac and a Kennedy for a cup of coffee. They stand there holding the coins, turn them over a few times reading what is on them and then usually give me the wrong change back.

Programs at the college hockey games I attend cost $3 and kids hawk them at the entrances. I like to buy my program using a $2 bill and either a Golden Dollar or two Kennedy Halves. I get some interesting reactions because usually these kids have never seen any of this "odd money".

I have been trying to get 2's, and half-dollars to spend. But I am competing against another person at my credit union. The first time I was able to get about 25. But at least a quarter came from a uncut sheet. Recently I have been getting less than five each time. This last time I got one it had been a postmarked Higbee, MO 65257 which is about thousand miles away by car.
