I was recently offered a complete set of statehood quarters(up to '05 anyway) with a "bonus" uncirc. bison nickel for a total of 15.95 from one of my credit card companies. It seems to me that 30 +1 uncirc. coins would cost more from the mint than 15.95. Are these really uncirc coins or are they just calling them uncircs?

I saw an identical ad. My ad was for coins from Littleton, and I think if you read the fine print you will see that you are signing up to get coins "on approval" every month, and those coins won't be cheap. However, you can bail on the monthly approval deal at any time. So, yes, you can take the cheap quarters and then either terminate the approval deal, or keep the approval deal. If you keep the deal, each month you will have a choice of paying 80% too much for that month's coins or going to the trouble of sending them back.

Not a calamity, but there will be some inconvenience involved.

Yes the coins are Unc. If you watch the local paper, ads in the mail etc you'll see plenty of these offers. They are not uncommon. And the seller's are NOT losing money on the deal.

Hmmm...last I knew I could get rolls of 40 Unc quarters from my bank for $10 each. 30 quarters + 1 nickel is only $7.55 face. So I can see someone making money selling it for 15.95 + SH

If you’re lucky enough to have a bank that has rolls of uncirculated quarters.

Shipping is free and my banks just roll their own coins from what they take in from the local businesses. Not bad if you're looking for older coins but a bit sticky if you're trying to find any westward journey nickels. My banks are just not getting the uncirculated stuff lately.
