Another Tuesday at the coin shop, nothing exciting, although I always feel obligated to buy something, so I did. He had this buff nickel, seems like a weaker strike but has a nice gold tone to it. Payed $12 for it, probably overpaid but who cares, looks good to me and like I said, i couldn't walk out with nothing! And of course, i'm always open to grading comments, thanks. -Josh
I don't really know how to grade these, but I know that you did okay with the price. Nice pick-up! :thumb:
Can't really say - the couple of spots where you might see a touch of wear have some glare on them. To me it really does not matter cause I like that way that coin looks. I suspect AU, but looks MS to me. Nice coin no matter what.
It is really enjoyable to view the pics. Really nice 70 year old bufflo. Have to agree with others that posted - MS grade for sure and don't feel in any way that you paid to much --- not at all.
How about a close up on the MM. There are a number of nice RPMS, and a couple of D/S. Nice looks unc.
I would have to say AU. The coin seems lacking in luster. This date and mint are usually very lustrous.
i would say the reverse seems to be ok in the horn area, but I do see wear on the bisons hair areas ,the obverse has some wear by the pics ,and i would say about one half of it's mint luster is left I don't think the pic is capturing whatever luster is left on the coin and I do think there is luster left on this coin that;s why i go with a AU 55 to 58 Jazz
One of the first places to show wear on a buffalo nickel is the back hip/knee area which does look to have a little rub on it though I think I would have to see it in person to make the final decision. My 1938-D/D is MS-60+ and has a weaker strike so I actually went through the same thing you are going through trying to look for worn details that just weren't there.
1938-D Buff Really wish I could find a Buffalo in this great condition and at that price ? Never happen. I would grade it MS for sure with that great horn. Is that a gold plating or actual toneing ?
well, I think I finally know how to take pictures now! Here is one that actually shows the tone of the coin. Its not as "gold" as the first picture.
