Found a 1947-s and a 1949 plain (nickels) today, both in fine (or thereabouts).
btw...how does a proof coin get into circulation ???
    just wondering

Eh, it's all part of my "passive" collection efforts when funds don't permit a more "active" role in the hobby, kind of like roll searching. I figure what the heck? I'm always game for getting some copper back in change or finding a silver coin in a roll of halves, and once in a blue moon I'll get something else worth keeping.

I throw all of my change into the ashtray in my car, then empty the tray once it fills into a 5 gallon plastic water bottle. I figure a buck or two per day sure adds up after a couple of years. Copper goes into a canvas mint bag.

Edit: I like those "Take a Penny, Give a Penny" trays too!

By people stealing from a collection and cashing it for face. Or Grandma buys little jimmy a proof set and he wants a piece of candy, all of a sudden he doesn't care how shiny that half dollar is.

Keep looking for those goodies, times are tough and it's causing a lot of people to simply cash in hordes!

I have gotten Wheat cents out of circulation again recently.

Just (10 seconds ago) found a 1996 Roosie with a wicked die crack at about 11:00 on the reverse...my first solid die crack I've found in change = )

:edit: there are TWO die cracks!! one coming out of the uppermost flame.

And this is a great example of the starburst effect, as well....neat.

Well I've been searching rolls for 1.5 years now and have always been disappointed when I look on CT and see someone who walked into the bank asked for halves and to their surprise hit the mother load, blah blah blah.

Well today I walked into the bank asked for any fifty cent coins along with my normal deposite. To my surprise they had $57 dollars of them and the teller was happy that I got them because she was tired of them in the vault. She counted out $17 dollars of loose halves and gave them to me, no winners. When I got out into the car I peeked into one roll and saw 66 I smiled looked on the other end of the roll and another 66 was there. bigger smile. Looked at the next roll and they were nice and white I dumped them into my hand, a roll of 64's. By now I was grinning from ear to ear. Finally a good day of roll hunting.:high5::goofer::high5:

    Working on a photo.

I went to a couple of banks today, and bought about $90 worth of halfs. No luck until i got to the last bank and asked for some and the teller next to the teller that i was talking to said that i searched all the halfs that the bank had the other day. the teller i was talking to originally said I have these! I looked at the edges from a distance and said i'll take the bottom one. It was a 67, it was the only find for the day but better than nothing. the old teller was mad and said " its only clad" i replied "yeah, but its till worth more than fifty cents". I think she was saving it for herself.

Aahhh, a silver witch! Only way to beat one of them is to become freinds with her enimies. There is one of those at a bank by me. Should have seen her face when another teller knowingly gave me a 90%er. HAHAHAHAHA

You sure it's toning ? Might be PVC or verdigris.

No I'm 99% sure it's toning. I can't get a picture that shows the color so you'll have to take my word for it
