Question about wheat pennies

My grandmother since I could remember saved wheat pennies. I have several rolles of them the were given to my father when she passed away and given to me when he passed away. I was curious about them.

They are dated 1909-1958...the keys are
1909-S VDB
1909-S
1914-D
1931-S

and a few from the teens...
The rest of the dates sell for about 5 cents each...if a dealer buys them about 3-4 cents each.

Speed you forgot the 22 Plain the 55 double die which are all Bronze Composition and there are the Zinc-Coated Steel Composition 1943's. There is a lot to Wheat Back Lincoln, but if you can post a list of coins you have and some pic. it will be more helpfull or you can go to www.coppercoin.com and www.coinfacts.com.

I did that because I don't count them when working on a set...also I ahve never heard of anyone getting one in a roll.
I would think you would have a better chance of getting a 1972DD in change than to get a 43 copper ever...

Well just think about it...I went to NGC's site and they have (not even looking at PCGS's, ICG, ANACS, or any other grading Co) graded 9 43 bronze cents and has graded 35 1972DD....what one do you think you would have a better chance of finding.

Sorry I just don't think your going to find a 43 copper.

sure the odds are against you, but don't you think the last guy who found one thought the same thing? then again the way things tend to go it was probably somebody who knew nothing about coins!!!
reminds me of the story about the two gents who noticed their pennies looked funny back in 1955. "well the whole roll is like this, they must not be worth anything." makes you feel queazy doesn't it?

During the late 60's, coin collecting was on a roll. People realized that pre-1965 halfs, quarters, and dimes were worth more than those "sandwhich" coins. Also, I could remember looking through rolls and rolls of Lincoln cents as a young lad in hopes of finding a 1909S-VDB which had a RED BOOK value of $400 in BU condition! It could have been $4 million dollars as those numbers were way over my head.

I never found a key date, but I did fill in many slots of my Whitman cent folder. I can remember as a kid when I found a "S" mint as these were the "rare" cents to me.

Anyways, the odds today of finding a 1955 DDO or a 1943 Bronze cent is almost zero as lots upon lots were cherry picked for the "good" dates over the last 40 years. Like many of you over 21, I searched my grandmother's pickle jar of Lincolns on her kitchen table with hopes of a treasure find. I think the best coin I found was some teen "S" mints in F condition.

Could it happen? Sure it could, but these unsearched lots you hear of were searched many times over. Good luck in your search.

 

when you say 43 copper cents what does that mean , i have about 20 to 30 1943 copper wheat pennies and also i have 3 that r steel am i rich???

 

can you post pics of the 1943 copper cents please. These may be altered dates as in they were say 1948 and altered to read 1943

 

ok i concur i am an idiot,lol i got so excited over that 150000 quote i darn near killed myself rushing to my coins,,, it turns out i have a handfull ,,23 -1944d cent and 5- 1943 steel cent i could cry now i had a flash of early retirement ,,, sorry folks i really thought i had them ,lol

gdjmsp ,you know my pics are ugly ,lol the steel 43 cents are dirty but very good condition ,,the 44d and 44 cents are also dirty but very ledgable and no nicks visable thru a magnifying glass they are more tarnished then anything ,,, they were from my grandfather and was passed to me in rolls several years ago ,, im sure thier not uncirculated but in very nice shape
