  1. Hey CT! Found this merc at a flea market and I just wanted to hear what you guys think! My friend and I took some pictures of it in an apartment... without the best light, but we made the most with what we had. Thanks for your opinion!

If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay?

To be honest, it looks like an AU-50 coin. It's maybe worth $1 or $1.50...not much more.

If you didn't pay more than a couple of dollars, you did okay.

Do you have a particular collecting interest?

He likes gold. Don't we all....= ) Actually, I prefer silver. Probably because I can't even begin to afford gold.

It was slabbed and graded MS63 I think, but not by a well-known company. ANI or something like that. I figured that having it slabbed in MS shape was worth the money alone. Rest assured, he didn't overpay a great deal. I'll let him reveal the paid amount if he decides to.

    It looks cleaned.

  8. It's slabbed MS-66 from ANI. I looked at it and knew it was an overgrade, but figured it couldn't be overgraded THAT much... I was thinking it would still be MS. It's very possible that the company only graded it based on the reverse, which is actually very impressive, although not FB. Basically, I spent 8.00 thinking it was at least MS-60...

what in particular makes you say AU?

I think it's ms, but cleaned. It looks harsh if those are hairlines in the fields on the obverse to the right.

Having a knowledge of dimes, and seeing the photos, I see some of the same reflections I get from my coins when I take pics and the coin seems to be a MS62/63 in my best opinion with the photos on hand. If you could take more photos I could ball park it better but it does appear to be MS and I don't see overt signs of cleaning on it. Does it have cartwheel luster? If so, you're good.

  11. I will have to get back to you on that... unfortunately the lighting is absolutely AWFUL in my room. I have a single LED keychain that really brings out the detail when I shine it on the coin... but then it reflects on the slab into my eye and that hurts just a little bit... but yeah... the pics were taken with a loupe under a fluorescent light about 6 feet above the coin. I will see what I can do to get better pics. Thank you all for your input!
