Below is a link to an auction. I was apprehensive about PCGS's policy for grading coins as genuine w/o explanation. Here is an example. My hunch on this coin is that the horn has been tooled. Thoughts? http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2644&lot=1257&imagetype=j
I have never seen that. I have never seen that. Now don't get me wrong - this is a pretty good coin I would like it and keep it raw but why is it in that stupid holder if they don't bother to grade it? What in the world is coin collecting going to when we have to put plastic around something to know if it is real? Would not a better use of our time and money go to learning the diagnostics's for ourselves? Or are we content to pay for plastic instead of learning? I mean what we going to say about a coin in a alphabet boys holder like this - it looks good for the grade????????? Good gracious! Ben
PCGS's explanation lists that the reason it recieved the genuine grade was for "damage or tooling". so i think you wouldnt be far off.
Thanx Jon......should have thought to punch in the cert number at PCGS prior to initiating thread.....LOL
