I am bidding on this beauty on eBay(sorry, no reverse picture). I am 99% sure I am going to win it. What do you think of it? Thank you for your time. ~Lafayette
Unless you are bidding a couple thousand, you can bet that is a fake. The pic is awfully small, but it looks to me like it is a 1944 altered.
I never buy coins off eBay without closer pictures. Sorry, I can't give you an opinion unless I can see more of the coin. Looks like there's dirt behind the head, and scratches near the date.
He could be right. That would explain the scratches and dents near the date. Ask for better pictures from the seller.
I think he means it could be a trick such as it being altered or fake. The seller is selling a really nice key date coin, but with really poor photos...
Yeah, a fake filler! :goof: In future, do not bid on coins that do not have a good enough picture to describe it well, especailly if they are the expensive keys :desk: But if it is fake, and the seller listed it as authentic, you are always able to return it... hopefully
Hard to tell for certain from such a small picture, but based on that little pic I would say that is an altered 1944-D with about a 98% certainty. The space between the 1 and 4 is just too wide - compare the gap to a real 1914-D: http://www.coinfacts.com/small_cents/lincoln_cents/wheat_ear_cents/1914d_cent.htm
I wouldn't buy a key date coin unless certified or from a repubatle dealer , If you want Lincolns that are fairly graded and priced go to Mesa coins or PM Arizona Jack , one of the good guys . At MESACOIN.com rzage
Don't buy that coin. Terrible photo and only buy a certified key. If it were raw there should be 4-6 good photos from multiple angles before I would ever think about.
Honestly, I think this one is ugly. Its discolored an looks like there is or has been corrosion. The first one is altered, what makes you think a second one may not be.....especially from the same seller. Look at mine......this is a genuine 1914-D Lincoln bought from a reputable dealer. Look at the difference...
