Can anyone tell me if this cloudy film is PVC residue ? Also, I can't use Acetone. I'm on Oxygen . 1960D FHD -OBV-tile.jpg

Meow just had to ask, as it is well known Cats are curious. Does Acetone react badly with oxygen?

Sal, hard to tell. Do you have someone who can dip in acetone for you? I work with a variety of glues, fumes, and solvents as a clarinet repair guy and at 25 my lungs are shot (haha...)

That being said, if you don’t have a friend to help. I could recommend going outside, if possible, pouring acetone really quick into a jar and tossing the coin in, and then leaving the scene. Acetone evaporates very quickly so a day later it will be all gone.

Hope you are feeling alright and there
Aren’t any fires in your area :)

It’s pretty inert as I know, but does cause lung irritation for those with those issues. I’m a spry young bull but I don’t like to inhale too much of that if I can help it. Don’t want to die too young...

Meow was worried that it would blow up or something. Acetone does cause irritation to the paws. That is what Meow knows about it, the burning feeling.

Maybe I'll try something else . I'm not selling it so maybe soaking it in something more mild ?

Also Meow tried nitrile kitten mittens to use with acetone. They meilted, so that was not a solution.

For modern coins, I think acetone is generally the most accepted. If this was a Roman coin I’d be all over the strong chemicals but...
Maybe some mineral oil? That’s pretty inert and won’t harm much.
