dont u guys think it would of been weird to say u get 2 different kinds of half dollars in change or something. It would of had to be a long time ago. But what about like getting 1 mercury and 1 roosevelt dime for 20 cents of change. U would of had like 2 kinds of currency everytime u bought something
Hey Spider, dont u think it would of been weird to say u get 2 different kinds of nickels in change or something. It might have been just last week. But what about like getting 1 jefferson and 1 biffalo nickel for 10 cents of change. U would of had like 2 kinds of currency everytime u bought something Maybe it all depends on how you say it!
no because both r considered Jefferson nickels and i took ur example into consideration before posting
They handled it the same way when Indian and Lincoln Cents circulated side by side...or any other change to our coinage. People adapted, learned, and moved on with their lives. It wasn't rocket science, just common sense. People read more years ago. They could do math without a calculator and they were articulate when they spoke (or wrote). Maybe you could learn from the past as you take on the future. Instead of wanting everything handed to you, your life will be more rewarded if you work for it.
Its the same as having a State Quarter and a Washington quarter...and no that is not the same becaue they don't call the older qaurters "state" quarters ;--) Its the same as getting a Wheat Cent in change with a Lincoln cent dated after 1958. Speedy
I'm not old but I know what you're saying... I think it might have been a bigger deal for those living through a change in size of coin -- like when we went from large to small cents. Don't suppose there are many around that have first hand experience though ...Mike
Consider this A man comes up to you and asks for 55 cents using two coins, how would you give it to him if one of these coins was nota nickel either jefferson or buffalo?
A half dollar and a half dime... You you could do it many other ways...like ---2 quarters...1 three cent piece...1 two cent piece... Speedy
One thing is for certain...US old people as you put it, got REAL coins WAY back then. I can remember spending Walking Liberty and Franklin halves, Mercury dimes and Roosevelt dimes and quarters that were made out of REAL precious metal. You know the kind I mean? The ones bringing premiums now! Coin collecting really suffered for years when the government took the silver away from us and it took another couple of generations to convince collectors that clad coinage was worth anything. While I continued to collect just about anything I prefer to put my money into those OLD coins that to me are NOT old ...just silver. You youngsters will look back about 40 to 50 years from now and see the things that took place in your lifetime as NOT old. Things that actually came before you would be considered old! My perception of old would be prior to 1900. Different century and a whole different way of doing things. Now that would be old.
Geeee I dunno Mike - I can think of a couple around here right off. Don't wanna name any names though
Or possibly like getting a Lincoln cent and a Canadian cent together in change; talk about a rattling experience!
I ain't old, but being close to the Canada/US border, I'm pretty used to seeing a fair amount of US coins. It's kinda odd, but hey, it's the same size, and perfectly acceptable.
