And maybe they don't need to fix the site for 1 or 2 times a year, maybe a guy simply forgot to fix the setting on cloudflare, maybe tons of excuses, but the mint can't say they didn't know this would happen because it's happened before on single hot items opened up for sale, so someone planned to release 2 real hot items at the exact same time knowing what was going to happen to the website.

    The anger is justified. imho.

The process to get through is so long, the mint's website is impossible to use in this scenario today. I haven't bought from them in a few years. Was not expecting the "pick the pictures to verify you're a human" 30 times, the multiple different refresh and error screens that appear, or the fields not filled out when you would accidentally get through for a brief moment, or the IP address block for refreshing too many times. Really terrible. I tried on 3 different computers and my phone from multiple locations over an hour and 45 minutes. Left empty handed. Was on 10 minutes before they went on sale. Have great internet speed.

That's nothing. Look at the Mayflower issues. Four different products, extremely low mintages, all going on sale at 9 a.m. I guess you just pick one and start refreshing. There won't be any time to add another product to your bag.

It made it an hour and a half at least only due to everybody getting stuck on a refresh screen. I know somebody who got one at that point. At an hour and 45 I finally got to the end on my info page with one in the bag and product was no longer available..
If it's luck of the draw who gets through on the server they may as well hold a lottery for these things and let everyone avoid wasting the time and frustration.

i don't think they will have anywhere near the demand as the ASE and AGE. I bet you can easily get one of everything if you want (I don't).

No matter what the reason, the Mint’s performance was amateurish and made the entire organization appear totally incompetent. How many of you with your own businesses would tolerate an interface with your customers this bad?

While most won't admit it, almost everyone would given the cost analysis of beefing something up for 10-20 minutes a year which is what the mint is looking at. It was a few days short of a full calendar year from the last time this happened

The mint knew full well what would happen but why would they care?

They successfully sold all $6+ million worth of gold eagles and $11+ million worth of silver eagles in less than 2 hours. Mission accomplished.

Don't get me wrong, I'm on your side. Just for fun, I tried for a gold and a silver. Got one of each in my cart. Gold was gone before I completed my checkout. I could have got a silver but I didn't want it bad enough to keep refreshing for an hour or whatever it was gonna take so I let it go - and somebody else grabbed it - sold anyway!

It's a really bad look but if it's not impacting sales, is it really a problem?

Is the mint a private company or an organ of our elected government? That kind of changes things for me.

I do business with a number of other web based operations of government agencies, and they are almost uniformly a disaster at one level or another, with antequated technology, etc. I literally never see these sorts of things when I do business with a private company that actually has to compete in the marketplace with others.

I'm not at ALL convinced it would cost one red cent more for the US mint to have competently constructed a website compared to whatever it cost to produce the piece of garbage that they have now. It would just have required someone competent in charge of a government agency who actually gave a fig enough to have some pride in what they're doing.

Yes, I know this is a profit operation . . . then maybe they should just privatize the whole thing. It was a disgrace on a ton of different levels. No excuse. If you run your business this way . . . good luck.

The US Mint doesn't care. I missed out on the Gold. Had the Silver in my basket. When I clicked on the checkout button, it disappeared. Hit the refresh button a few times then said "to Hell with it". I'd rather a nice type coin for the money.

They're a for profit organization. They could actually gouge if they wanted to like many of the major world mints do. Look at England, France, Australia etc and the prices they charge for many things
