Hey all. Im just curious of everyones opinon of auctions similar to these. http://www.bid4assets.com/auction/index.cfm?auctionid=183579 Is it a scam? if it is how do they get away with it? Can it be a deal? Im sure its probably to good to be true but i was just curiuous of everyones 2 cents. Thanks!
Rip off...for one thing they are using every grading Co.--even SGS and NTC...Now I have seen some good coins from NTC but NEVER from SGS. Why would anybody list a auction that is worth over $117 thousand for $0.00--just doesn't happen that way. Speedy PS--I see that you MUST bid $5,000.00 for the first bid....that is what I call a rip off.
Look at what you are getting. A bunch of over valued coins in third rate slabs. The only ones in a top tier holder are moderns from the past 5 years. Most of the SGS and NTC grades will drop at least a point or two if you submit them to NGC or PCGS. Check the pops on those coinsat NGC and the prices at PCGS.
Do not walk - RUN away from such things as fast as you can !! This is a prefect example of a seller trying to take advanatge of unsuspecting buyers. How do they get away with it ? They're not doing anything illegal. Unfortunately it happens every day
Thanks for all the info. MAybee i should of reworded my original post. I had absolutly no intention of bidding on these was more curious to how these scams work and so on and so forth. But again thanks for the info.
On the same site there is an interesting coin for sale: N.R.! MUSEUM Bronze Christian Coin (Circa 103 BC) I am still trying to figure out a Christian coin from a century before Christ...
I don't think NTC slabs fake coins, but they sure overgrade them. No...they are most likely real, but NTC, and other bottom dwelling TPG's need to be bid at their grade designation minus 5 points (at least for MS grades) and 10 to 20 points for circulated grades. SGS is not a legitimate TPG as the eBay seller Aboncon owns and operates this "service" and sells to newbies with the dreams of MS70 or PR70 grades.
I have seen a few nice coins in off name slabs...even a ACG slab...but on a auction like this I wouldn't go near them...only when I can see them IN person and grade them is when they are safe to look at! I think if you won it you would get some coins--yes I think you would get what is listed but IT WOULD NOT be worth anywhere near that $$$. Speedy
