can't complain that my local dealer doesn't know me... I walked in he said $20 and put it on the counter... hehe Damn him I don't think i've ever managed to walk out empty handed will look good beside my george washington no edge lettering
I tried believe me but can't seem to get a pic worth posting of it.. will try again later/tomorrow with the good camera
I had the same problem with edge lettered coins. You just can't get a decent photo in that slab. Nice pick up!
There are actualy 2 errors for this coin doubled, and doubled inverted. the regular doubled was not like say a 55 dbl die cent but the 2nd set of lettering could start at any point on the coin.
It has nothing to do with being doubled. It is only double lettering. Applied 2 times. The initial on the slab is DBL not DBLD Big difference! Here is some reference http://www.error-ref.com/edge-lettering-mulitple-sets/
I know the person who discovered these coins in SE Michigan back in 07. There is a good chance he owned that coin raw. Paddyman98 is correct, its not a doubled die, it was struck twice on the 3rd side of the coin.
In the beginning they were a hot item. If you go to ebay you will see many that are NGC slabbed selling very cheap. So many were found that the premium went down down down..
I don't believe the number of doubled edge lettering Adams dollars is 50,000 - but I haven't checked the pop reports for PCGS and NGC. And, the doubled edge lettering is not from being 'double struck' It's from the struck coin going thru the edge lettering operation twice.
