I'm thinking about picking up one 1921 Peace Dollar and I’m wondering which one to get P, S or D. Any other words which is the hardest to get so I can get that one first thanks.

There is only one 1921 Peace dollar, and it is a key date.

You may be talking about a 1921 Morgan dollar. This comes in P, D, and S varieties. If you are seeking circulated examples, they are all common and should cost the same. There is no price difference between the P, D, and S until you get into uncirculated grades. In uncirculated, the S is the most expensive, followed by the D, with the P being the least expensive.

That is easy, the only 1921 Peace Dollars were minted in Philadelphia. Keep in mind that this is a key date and a little pricey.

The other key dates to the series are the 1928 & 1934-S. There are a whole bunch of conditional rarities in the Mint State grades.

What grade are you looking to buy?

If it is Peace Dollars you're talking about and you're looking to do a set then I'd say to buy the keys first. As Lehigh said, the key dates are the 1921, 1928 and the 1934-S. The 1934-S is cheaper than the other two in lower grades but it is far more expensive than the other two in higher grades because it is a condition rarity. Good luck with your set. Here is a guide to help you with prices.

Heritage has a rather attractive MS61 in auction right now. Check it out!

I have no idea what those marks are in the hair but I find them interesting.

NO. I say that due to all price guides are just that, guides.
There are also price guides on the PCGS forum, coin world, and just lots of other places. There is the famous Red Book that has price guides too.
I would suggest if you just want to buy one try looking up coin shows in Google. Or even on the PCGS, Coin World, etc web sites. If you check out coin shows there may be some in your area. That is usually the best place to look at, verify prices, ask questions, etc. Don't just go by the first PRICE GUIDE you see.

When you looked at that auction link that Lehigh provided did you see this ?

    Lot Date Grade Service Realized

    Auction 28104, Lot 24332 Tuesday, October 28, 2008 61 NGC $230.00
    Auction 28093, Lot 23298 Tuesday, September 16, 2008 61 NGC $253.00
    Auction 28091, Lot 21433 Tuesday, September 2, 2008 61 ANACS $253.00
    Auction 68033, Lot 63506 Sunday, March 16, 2008 61 NGC $230.00
    Auction 447, Lot 9432 Wednesday, October 3, 2007 61 ANACS $276.00

That pretty much tells you what the coin is worth. You can also click on any of those auction lot numbers and go see the coins to see how they compare to each other. That will help explain the variance in prices.

I assume you mean the black marks ? Left-overs from a dip.

Now, this coin is a good one for something you like to discuss. You want to see when quality of strike plays an important role in the grade of a coin ? Search through '21 Peace dollars and you'll see it in a heartbeat.

I was actually referring to the overall appearance of the coin for an MS61 grade. With regards to strike, you have to separate the 1921 from the rest of the series because of the high relief design. By it's nature, the strike would be an important grading factor. But I would agree, I don't see weakly struck 1921 Peace Dollars with gem and premium gem grades.

Nice coin for the grade. One thing about this one that I like, even though it is not a full strike it is does have an above average strike for the year. Good luck. I've got some 21's and love them. Depending on grade the 24-s and the 28-s can cost you as much in not more as the 21. Good luck on the collection.

Can't, the pic is a flash file. But there are 3 all in the back of the hair. 2 near the bottom, 1 mid way up.

Elaborate on what ? I am merely saying that with the '21 Peace strike plays a more important part in determining grade than it does with other coins.

yes yes i know but i think you are very close to solving some of my problems without even realizing it. say it elaborately why and what and so forth like you would tell a newbie. i need to translate it for my indian coins and dont want to miss anything

I did already - I always do when I'm talking to you spock

Won't work as it would not apply to Indian coins. Indian coins are no different than US coins in that they all have their own unique striking characteristics. But to be able to apply those unique characteristics you first have to know them. And if you already know them then there is nothing I can help you with for I do not know them. I only know a few.

hmm. i think a new thesis is in order for the bracelet coins. the strike completely lters the design i have never seen it happen anywhere else. now we can either say they are 2 diff designs or we can say since its imperfectly struck it wont go over 65. 3 bangles and a bracelet truly amazing.

we will let the fist part of your comment go since you were not talking to me just imagining it :D
