I have this 2006 Note that is a " Novelty Note " . It's a front on back wet ink transfer error. I bought this for educational and for a conversation piece .
The thing is I can't find anything that says its fake . Is it that Obvious and I'm not seeing it ? Has anyone else seen anything like this ? 1 dollar-back on front-vert.jpg

Who called it a novelty note? Can't tell if it's real or not from those pictures. I need an extreme closeup of the line work of the transfer.

It’s called an Offset Error and yours is Back-to-Front. At first glance, it looks a little small. Where did you buy it and what did you pay please ?
Many are faked and sell on eBay. We need better photos.

I got it on Ebay to compare to my 1977 "offset error" . I paid $9.95 . I will post closer pics .

The back plate number should be the same but it is not. The real back number is 97. The back plate number on the face has three digits.

Since the presses use several plates in rotation, I don't think the plate numbers would necessarily have to match. But, yes, it does seem unlikely that two back plates as far apart as 97 and 168(?) would have been on the same press at the same time.

For the price you paid, and I'm assuming it was listed as a fake (wonder if they had others for sale), plus the smaller size of the transfer, I'd say it is safe to assume it is fake and you can use it as intended; educational and conversation piece. JMHO

SensibleSal66 Are you saying that the transfer is smaller than the normal size of the back printing, or that the bill is smaller than other bills?

No it's the same size as other bills and Yes the transfer does appear smaller doesn't it ?

I can’t tell from the pictures. I do know that the back printing area is always smaller than the front.

100% correct. Matter of fact, when the note is being graded, the Register, which is how well the back print is centered to the front print, is taken into consideration. This is evaluated by backlighting the note.
