I went to an antique mall Saturday and Sunday and bought $40 worth of silver and nickels and dollar bills... Had a blast and I thought I’d show it off
Very nice looking coins . Will make a fine addition to your collection. Just be careful when buying modern silver coins for more than spot price. You can check melt values at coinflation.com.
Yeah... I seriously overpaid for the silver nickel... Oh well... I underpaid for the rest so I guess that makes up for my loss
That is a good start @DarkRage666. You may also wish to consider buying a decent United States type album as well to display them. https://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/product/littleton-album-20th-century-us-type-coin-album.html
I don't know, that silver nickel looks to be in pretty nice shape. I'm not sure I'd say you "seriously overpaid" for it. If it were a normal dull-green worn example, sure -- but I see luster on yours!
I hit the language button on my keyboard by accident. It was supposed to say that I miss going to shows like tha . I haven't heard of any in what feels like forever.
We just have a few antiquity malls in the DFW area... It was cool to see so many old things and have a chance to buy some beautiful coins
If I were in your position, I’d try to find a brick and mortar coin dealer as most antique stores typically sell their coins at a decent markup most of the time. You shouldn't have any problems finding a brick and mortar coin dealer around where you live, in all honesty. Speaking from personal experience building a relationship with your local coin dealer is arguably one of the best things a collector can do regardless of their experience level.
I like the antique mall where I live because you can almost always get a bargain (most of the time the workers can give a 10% discount without calling the dealer)... I'm a model car collector and I bought 2 car from there that totaled over $50 and I got them for $20... The specific guy I bought the coins from had a no discount policy, but he was selling his coins for about $0.25 to a dollar off... I thought it was a pretty good deal for the number of coins I got... A couple of other people were selling coins as well but they overpriced most of their coins by quadruple the price. The $2 bill was a gift from one of the workers at the mall and she saw me eyeballing the bill and bought it for me... I was so thankful for her kindness.
