Well maybe you can make the late summer show in PA. We will not have a table at the Pittsburg show. But our buyers and I will be there looking to spend some money ;-)
I remember reading some info about the $10 Bison Legal Tender note. Please forgive if I've posted this here recently. The Buffalo was in a NY zoo. His name was Pablo. The artist had a hard time doing his work because the buffalo didn't cooperate. It took other people to distract Pablo so the artist could do his sketches. Just a little tidbit of info that I thought I'd share.
I know that the Buffalo on the Five Cent coin was Blacky. He was in the Bronx zoo. I have not heard any talk on the $10 bison note though. Seems interesting.
There is still dispute as to whether the bison on the 1901 $10 United States Note was the animal from the Bronx Zoo, who's name was "Black Diamond", or another bison who's name was "Pueblo".
I just want that note. I'll get one, one day. Right now, I busy with mcp's and drooling over gold. And of course other buffalo related items.
Did you enter a coin into the US side of the Pop Coin Idol constest on coinpeople? If so you might wanna win the prize i've got for the winner, very much buffalo related!
Here's what I know about Black Diamond. He is/was the buffalo on the nickel. I read once that after he became famous that he was slaughtered and steaks from him were marketed for a fee. It was a novelty..."eat a steak from the buffalo on the nickel". I also remember reading that his stuffed/mounted head was sold at auction at the 1985 ANA convention. I can't say that any of this is fact but I have heard/read these things more than once over the years.
Syl, What is it, i'm "dying" to know, what is it, now I know I gotta win! Buffalo related? What? I've gotta win now.
tradernick, thanks for sharing the Indian five dollar bill. I never gave much thought to the bills of past but that one really got me thinking about doing more thinking.
