Picked up another Medieval coin. AV Agnel d'or ND Angers Mint/ Struck October 21st. 1417 France/ Valois Rulers Charles VI "le Fol" 1380-1422 Nicknamed aptly "the Fool" or "the Mad" under his rule France was bankrupt/ totally humiliated by the English Occupation. Charles ended up ruling over a tiny fraction of France at Rheims. Even the coinage was of poor mint quality, as you can see with my coin....sad
I see the reverse is a well decorated shield, but I can't figure out what the obverse is supposed to be. Can someone explain what I'm looking at?
Just got rained out....so I am home early. Yes, France and Burgundy both struck "Mouton d'ors" and "Agnel d'ors". John
