Using the time to take new pictures of some of my coppers. I have never been able to take reasonable pictures of this coin before - pleased with the result.
WoW !! Nice Copper, I'm jealous . Nice details and nice date too ! What do you think this grades > It's a Whale as far as value goes !
Early US copper coins are fast becoming my favorite. Yours is better looking than mine. Want to trade?
Thank you. I like this 'lil half sister' a lot, she's real pretty in-hand, just no very photogenic. But, I finally did manage to capture here as she is. kanga, I disagree, I think your example is superior to mine - it seems to have relatively smooth surfaces and strong devices. My C-3 on the other hand has a finely granular surface.
I like them both...very much. I had a huge collection of Half Cents at one time including many Unc. Never had a 1793 though. Bruce
@Eduard and @kanga, those are both quite nice 1793's. I agree that it's somewhat difficult to photograph these coins adequately, whatever that word means. To illustrate, here's my 1793 that I bought from @halfcent1793 who was not only gracious enough to sell it to me but also spent some time talking about it and other things. The first set of photos are by @halfcent1793. The second set are my first attempt at shooting the coin. My attempt dramatically emphasizes the variable coloring on the obverse which does not look like the coin in hand. On my list to make another attempt, too.
I just order a digital microscope. Hopefully, I will be able to take some neat pictures as you all have. Thanks for sharing.
The 1793 half cent is a dream coin for me. It's great to see 3 examples together here, from 3 forum members.
@Publius2 , thank you for posting your example of the 1793 C-2. Beautiful early copper! not surprising seeing whom you obtained it from.
I no longer have the collection...had to sell everything about 10 years ago. I still have my stock book though. I did have a 1794 VF-20 (B1 C1), and a 1795 F-15 (B2A,C2A). I had a total of about 40 coins including 17 Unc. graded from 62 to 65. Bruce
This coin is challenging to photograph. Publius 2 is right that the color in hand does not look like the photo he took. I can't figure out why it shoots like that, but it does.
