That’s a great addition to an already spectacular collection. I’ve posted a few of my favorite “Bruti” plus in the next post I’ll add one that may be Brutus.

Truly fabulous coins! I especially love your Brutus aureus and of course your Eid Mar which is far more deserving than the paltry lowball offer you infamously received.

Do you happen to have the pedigree for your Brutus aureus? I don't recall seeing the coin before but it looks like it should have a lengthy sales history.

Thanks! I too have started to question if it was the correct decision but having crossed it off the list again, I can't complain :)

I find the Brutus fourrees to be particularly interesting: producing a fourree is dangerous enough but it's a particularly risky endeavor to produce a coin of a politically contentious type. I've read from a couple sources that Antony/Octavian recalled the Brutus coinage to prevent them from spreading their messages further although this might just be conjecture.

The price can be found online but it was more expensive (and far less maintenance) than my last house.

Thanks Joe - The only thing I know is that I purchased it from Jonathan Kern in 1985. I’ve not had the opportunity to track down any prior provenance.

Absolutely stunning denarius @AncientJoe :wideyed: I admit, I've been waiting to see it photographed..... what a special piece to have, though I know you have far rarer pieces in your collection!!!

And wow....2 Eid Mar denarii on this forum!!! Anyone else have one? I certainly do not..... :p

The only one of these I have seen in person was at the Met when I was in NYC for the International show in January. It was unceremoniously hung on the side of a display case near the center of a showroom. Pretty sad treatment for a coin such as this but still loved seeing it. Congratulations on your purchase and I'm certain it will be treated with the honor it deserves.

The gold version is coming up at Roma in about 2 hours. Pre-bid closed at about $550K. One of three known. AncientJoe - you need this!

    JULIUS CAESAR (again)

The first one of mine above is just prior to his death... a series of coins purportedly to be the last straw of having his living face on the coin, and to state he was Dictator for life.

This one is of the time when he STARTED the whole mess of becoming Dictator... the year he Crossed the Rubicon:

I rarely consider purchasing a modern copy / representation of Ancient coins. I have returned coins, mistakenly purchased that were actually "museum copies". (The Seller represented it as a BOOK of Ancient Coins in History).

However, I purchased only ONE placeholder in History, which is a Slavei of the Eid Mar coin. I do not want to post it because I do not want to besmirch the fantastic coin and legacy that you just acquired, @AncientJoe . Again, hearty congrats.

Congratulations! A gorgeous example of the type, and a pleasant surprise that it’s even better in natural light!

Congrats @AncientJoe - your new Eid Mar really stands out as an amazing example, even among others of its type.

For me, the features that distinguish this coin are (1) the crispness of Brutus's portrait, (2) the sharp strike of the legends on both the obverse and reverse, and (3) the full legends on both sides of the flan. It's a coin that looks even better the more closely you look at it.

    It's a keeper! ;-)

I ate my example. Not sure that was the right choice after seeing the recent prices realized...
