You should have just posted these photos to the other thread. The '52D is not a proof. It looks like it has been polished.
The only way I know of (at least I think) to check for a proof is to see if the edge is squared off at a 90 degree angle as proofs are.
Well, polishing will damage the coin per "The Spruce Crafts." FYI, that coin has been in my jewelry box all these years.
I am not sure if it has ever been a proof coin. What I do know, is this 1952-D quarter has evidence of being in circulation. The obverse and reverse shows wear to support this claim. Also, as I previously said, it has been in my jewelry case for 15 years. What you see as polish, along with the size of the head, these two visuals, are the only major differences between the two. Now, I have to take it to a dealer to see why this is so. Thank you for expressing your concerns because I will have those as questions when I speak with Mr. Joe. Jackie
15 years is less than one-fourth of its existence. What could have happened during the 53 years prior to that time?
Is that not what grading a coin is about? I do not need to know the individual or individuals. I need to know how it was treated by the one or those who had it before me.
Your 1952-D quarter is not a proof and never was. Proof-LIKE, perhaps. Proofs were never made at the Denver mint. Only at Philadelphia until 1968 when they were made in San Fran, and later at West Point. Branch mint proofs of older coins do exist but they are quite, quite rare (1894-S Barber dime is an example)
