But so your aware just because these books say its worth that much doesnt mean your going to get that much.. But 350 isnt a good deal at all DONT DO IT..
I own these books you can buy them online but if you dnt want to just let me know the dates and ill send u the book values
And Todd: get some cotton gloves for handling the nicer coins to protect them. You can get them from Amazon (of course!) and if there is a Hobby Lobby in your area, they are with the coin supplies. OR maybe buy them from the villainous wretch in the coin shop, and mention the $1500 offer you have for the 1909-s VDB. (If he can lie, so can you.)
100% agree with what Randy said. Here's a link to recent eBay sales of 1909-S VDB cents which have been graded by TPGs. To be conservative, I chose AU55, which is a lower grade than yours. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...055&_dcat=39455&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1 As you can see, all the sales are over $1,000 and that's for AU55. I think yours would grade higher. But if yours is deemed to be cleaned, then you won't get a straight grade from TPGs, but a "Details" grade.
But you don't want to depend on the book values. Better to use auction prices, which are more current than any book.
Absolutely. Auction site sold prices are a better indicator of a coins current value. The books are averages and printed once a year and it's sometimes many years before they update prices in the books.
I finally got around to taking pictures somewhat properly. Here is grandad's 1909-S VDB It seems someone cleaned/brushed the obverse lettering. 1909-S VDB Lincoln Penny Obverse by Todd Williams posted Dec 10, 2020 at 9:32 AM 1909-S VDB Lincoln Penny Reverse by Todd Williams posted Dec 10, 2020 at 9:32 AM 1909-S VDB Lincoln Penny Closeup by Todd Williams posted Dec 10, 2020 at 9:32 AM
Wow, Todd.... One of the finer 09-S, VDB's that I have seen. Sadly, yes it does appear that the surface has been wiped or cleaned. Thing is, it was accepted practice to clean coins in previous generations. It is still quite a fine specimen though.
