If you notice the push dent on the back side, since a DIE has flat faces then this was done after it left the mint. So the front / obverse has the section that was pushed in, and thus pushed out the back side. Thus is is simply damage. but the GOOD news is, it's worth at least 1 cent. I has not lost it's face value since being minted !!
At first glance ir looks like a strike through, but the deformed reverse tells it is an after market modification. Otherwise known as post mint damage. Meow was fooled at first glance at a number of coins like this when CRH.
This is a reason why we always ask for a obverse and reverse photo. Sometimes you may think there is nothing going on with the opposite side, but there may be something we can pick up on to give a definitive answer.
