I'm in a little pickel here. Im organizing my collection a little better and I wanted to run a question buy you guys. I don't want to get into to much detail of what I have so heres the basic idea. If you have a complete run of roosevelt dimes P D and S would you put the entire run together from 46 to 2008 or would you put all your roosevelts together like all your 46 P then your 46 D s. Right now I have all coins by date and mint sorted together.

I don't like albums I put all my coins in 2x2's. Except for the common rolled coins like wheats and new bank rolls.

Just to make sure I know what you are asking, you have at least one coin of each date/mint 1946- on AND you also have duplicates from many or all dates. You then want to know if you should sort them entirely by date (all duplicates together) or as a set (just one of each date).

If that is correct, them it depends on just what you call a "collection". If you are collection a SET of dimes, sort them as a set. If you are collecting just dimes, sort them by date. You can also do both. When I started collecting, I had a set (all-be-it in an album) and all the rest were sorted by date.

Regardless, It is you set, do with it as you wish.

If you really want a set of Roosies, assuming that they are circs, then:
I put together a set, one of each.

Roll the rest and sell for melt.

But, then again, who am I to talk, I have over 4,000 Roosies, just waiting for $50 silver.

[and it has been a l-o-n-g wait.]

I have all the roosey's i want then more ( I hate them ). I don't plan on selling at all. I've been collecting for 20+ years and never got rid a coin yet every wheat i find goes in a jar, just like every coin I like goes in a jar to sort on a rainy day. As you can guess I have lots of jars.

I know its up to me on how I want to sort them but I was wondering what you guys think. If you saw a collection of dimes would you like to see the entire set and the doubles elsware? Right now there all together.

I used the roosey's as an example. Like I said I didn't want to get into to much detail of what I had so I just picked dimes. If you like use penny's for the example go right ahead. I just wanted an opinion.

I personally would do seperate sets from each mint, but that's just the way I like to do it.:)

A single P-D-S set of the best ones for each consecutive year, then a second (and third) set if you have enough duplicates. Then the rest for sale as numismatic items or for melt.

    I'm not sure, but,,,

I'm not sure I ever would bother to put together sets of circ. Roosevelt's but each to his/her own.
I will try to be of help though.

I make beautiful albums using a "Brothers" label maker, regular 2x2's, 20 pocket pages and three ring binders.
I always use "self flattening" stapler - Using these materials you can use any type or colors or patterns and they look great. It takes a bit of investment and trial and error but I think my albums look as good as anything on the market.
If anyone is interested I will be glad to get more specific and soon maybe I can get some photos on here.

For the love of god Im not putting a set of dimes together. Does anyone not read the entire thread. The dimes was an expample. Forget it, it's the freaking seated series im putting together. The entire thing, half dime to dollar set. No thats not the truth, but it seems some are having problems with the dime example.

I love the secrecy (Like I said I didn't want to get into to much detail of what I had) and then he gets his panties in a wad when he doesn't get the answer he wants because he was being to vague.

    What a joke.

The real answer is that know one really cares how you organize YOUR collection. It's up to you to decide how YOU want to do it. If it's sooooo hush hush, no one will ever see it except you, so just pick a method and go back into the vault and sort your jars ...lol.

What secrecy? It was a general question of what people thought about when putting complete sets together when they have doubles or more of a certain coin. I used Roosey's as an example and people assumed thats what I was putting together. I hate those coins.

I understand its up to me how I want it, but it was just a question.

Most people in here, I find keep there collection hush hush.

I am not a great Roosevelt Dime lover nor a Jefferson Nickel person. HOWEVER, since I am a coin collector I've always felt I should have a few sets of those anyway. Of course I too am a album person so my suggestion is to purchase a Whitman or Dansco album and put your coins in there. My method is to have all my albums with a # on the front. Such as #1, #2, etc. If I puchase a coin that is better than in set #1, the one from #1 goes to #2 and the one in #2 goes to #3, etc. Naturally the one in the last album ends up in a 2x2 until there is enough of those to start a new set.
Presently I have over 100 such Albums.
Albums are fun since at a glance you can tell what you have and don't have.
If you want to show off a collection, all coins in an album are easily displayed.
Some prefer those sheets that hold 20 2x2's and then put them in a 3 ringed binder. This way it is easy to move them to any place you want.
Probaly the best, easiest and cheapest method is to just put all your coins in one big jar. :goofer:
