I wonder how they handle something so small in day-to-day transactions without losing any.

yup and this is a full or whole fanam.. also a very tiny coin..

 

In Aristophanes “the frogs” (I THINK)

There’s a scene where a character buys something at the market with tiny coins from his cheek. He gets his change back in tiny coins he puts back in his cheek.

He immediately spits them out and finds he’s been scammed - merchant gave him fish scales instead of tiny coins

 

Smallest coins I have are from Travancore India...

 

i've seen silver fanams before but is that last one copper/bronze?
