Hi i have a coin i need help to identify, can anyone help me it a small 8 sided coin with a indian on one side a the word california gold on the other.
Howdy Dave - Welcome to the Forum !! Sounds like a California gold token to me. Problem is, there are more fakes and modern copies out there than genuine coins. Can you post a pic ?
Also, give us the weight if possible. But you can look it up here: http://www.calgoldcoin.com/ Ribbit Ps: Welcome to CoinTalk! :hail:
coin i think i have attached the photo now. Thanks for your help the coin says california gold with a star in the middle and on the other side it says 1860 with star and an indian head
It looks like a 1860 Indian #1, 13 stars: http://www.calgoldcoin.com/wreath4a.htm Little over half way down. I believe it's gold and it would be worth around $25-$50. Ribbit
You should also be told Dave that these are not genuine coins from the time of the Calf. gold rush. These are much more modern tokens.
OK thanks thanks for the heads up. Just good to know... i didn;t pay more then they are worth so i m happy. Cheers Mate
I believe that one was made in the early part of the 20th century (1910 - 1920). On some, they have a better idea of when they were made and on others, it's more of a guess. It's an interesting area of coin collecting and there's lots to learn, to have just a basic understanding of them (if that's possible). Ribbit
