Hello everyone! I was thinking about sending this coin out to PCGS for a grade. But I would only want to do this if it were to reach MS64 or above. So I would like all of your opinions please, asking if it is worth sending it in, and hoping for an MS64+? All questions and comment are welcome, thanks! Nice Morgan , It'll definately go 64 in my opinion and more likely a 65 , don't forget CC morgan usually get a 1 pt. bump , Unless that mark on Libertys face is deeper than it looks . rzage
Well I think it could make 64 - pretty frosty coin. Unless the glare is hiding something. Very nice coin Ryan.
Hard to tell but if I had it in hand, I'm certain I'd be able to give a much better informed opinion! hya: So, when are you sending it to me? Ribbit Ps: Luv it! :thumb:
I might just put it on hold and think about it. I would rather have it raw, than it being in a PCGS MS63, IMO. A wittle to low for me P.S. Send this to you? :mouth: Last time I did something like that, you couldn't even take five minutes to look at them! :vanish:
ryan, I also believe that the coin appears to be an MS-64! However, the pictures are too bright and may be hiding some problems or even the true beauty (eye appeal) of the coin. I for one, would like to see pictures of the Obverse and Reverse with the lighting (and thus the glare) turned down somewhat! Frank
I don't think any of you noticed the different lighting I had put in my original post? Well, here they are again!
I would give it an MS62 there's alot of bag marks on the focal areas on the obverse of the coin and some blemishes.which is very distracting to me. The reverse looks ok ,but has some blemishes , to bad because the reverse grades about a MS 64 ,but they always go with the lower grade unfortunitly. This is a split grade coin 62/64 Jazzcoins Joe
ryan, Based on the new pictures I am going to shoot for MS-63 but it may still go MS-64! ONe thing that I noticed last night and forgot to mention in my earlier posting is that I believe that it may be a Morgan VAM. It looks like there is something going on with the Date (doubling or an RPD), there also appears to be doubling on the Obverse lettering and the Mintmark may be a "CC over CC". Frank
I agree with Frank! I didn't even look close the first time, since I figured I could see it better in hand when you send it to me but by the pics, there is something going down. hya: That is a good reason to send it in, since to get its VAM's attributed, will bring it's value up. Ribbit
Personally I think the coin would be body-bagged. It has numerous slide scratches across Liberty's face & hair. While 1 or 2 might be let slide, I can't recall ever seeing a coin with that many let slide.
I would have to go along with GD, man that coin has alot of bags marks in the focal area the cheek ,now that I zoomed in on the coin I do see doubling on the obverse I think the coin has a form of Machine doubling ,and a possible doubled die I see notching on the secondS of states ,but I also see machine Doubling on the U of united so it may be a mixed bag I don't see anything on the MM and nothing on the date. I don't think it would make a grade if it does ,I ;m lowing my grade to MS60 maybe or even bag it like GD said Jazz
I just looked at the coin with a 30X loupe, under a bright florescent lamp, and there are no signs of doubling... not that I can see? http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee59/ryanbrooks11/DSC05857.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee59/ryanbrooks11/DSC05867.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee59/ryanbrooks11/DSC05862.jpg
Use an incandescent light and a 5x glass - you'll be able see more that way. Fluorescent lights tend to actually hide things on a coin.
Well since you gave us better pics you don't have to worry it's all Machine doubling anyway sorry Jazzcoins Joe
ryan, Is that a bar under the second "8" in the Date or just a nick??? If it is a bar, then it should be a VAM! Frank
I just took the coin out the case, and looked at it very carefully, tilting it at many angles. Believe it or not, it's a bar! At least I think? I doesn't seem to be indented into the coin?
ryan, If in fact it is a bar, then maybe you can match the coin (Die Markers) to one of the VAM's for the Date and Mint on Vamworld! There are 6 VAM's listed which have the bar under the second "8" in the Date. There were previously 7 but VAM-7 was found to be the same Die pair as VAM-5. http://www.vamworld.com/1883-CC+VAMs Frank
