    1773 Virginia Half Penny
    Mintage: About 670k pieces

Authorized by the 1773 Virginia delegation to be minted at the Tower of London mint. The entire mintage showed up at New York harbor on a ship named the Virginia, February 14th of 1774 where they sat for about a year waiting for a royal decree to release them for use.
Finally released to public around March 1775.
Revolutionary War breaks out mid April 1775.
Despite carrying the kings likeness, circulated freely during and after the war, probably out of necessity.
One of the few I have not in plastic with a pretty neat story.

Here is the oldest one I have in Mint State, a Virginia Half Penny. This is not as big a deal as it might seem. There was hoard of 700 or so of these discovered in Mint State in the mid 1870s.

And this might be the oldest. It's a string wampum beads, but they don't have any dates. :)
