Hey I have the 1 0z Australian Lunar Year of the Dragon 2000 .999 pure silver coin. It seems as if it's really hard to find this online, there are only a couple websites that offer it, all the others say it's either sold out or unavailable. I was wondering if this was a rare find?

Not realy there are quite a number out there, they also come in a lot of different sizes up to 1 kilo I believe LOL I have the 1oz and 2 oz in my collection. They started producing them in 1999 with the Year of the Rabbit :goofer: Then in 2007 issued Pig, Ox, Tiger and Rat which brought series I to a end, and began series II which are slightly larger (all gets a bit confusing I know) If you like this type then have a look for the Australian Kookaburras, Kangaroos and Koalas

Depends on how you define rare. There are plenty of world coins out there, commems usually, that have mintages under 150 total coins. Some even go as low as 30 coins. But rarity does not always equate to value. Even these coins can usually be purchased for slightly more than melt.

Well actually, they are only available until 2010, and also there were 50,000 minted.
I consider that a rare coin to hold on to, and also because it is "silver".

I never got into the Lunar series...howevr I do get a Kangaroo and Kookaburra each year.

I am informed however than the dragon is key to the series...and picks up a higher premium than any of the other lunar series.

Hehe as a 20 year old, my roommates think I'm a bit eccentric to be collecting coins at this time. However, when I have enough knowledge and money I want to pursue US coins, such as Buffalo nickels, Morgans, liberty heads, etc.
I have a big catalog from "Stacks" with many coins in it, it's really interesting to look at it.
And the more I learn about coins, the more I understand which ones are rare and which are not.
Coin collecting is a great hobby isn't it? I love it.
