*Edit: This giveaway is now CLOSED, but the regular monthly one is still open for entries. See the link in my signature line.

Well, folks, it seems the shadowy but benevolent "QuarterMaster" from Quarter Notes, Ltd. has struck yet again, as I received this letter in the mail yesterday.

"Look, he's gone and done it again!", I said to Ladymarcovan. She was suitably impressed.

I'll just let you read it. I don't expect he'll mind.

So when a generous mystery man sends you a crisp new C-note in the mail (not for the first time, I might add), to purchase some trifling trinkets,
you do what the man says!

Therefore, three people who were named on the back of the letter will be receiving a set of my 2019 and 2020 custom elongated coins. These are rolled out on Wheat cents, Indian cents, Barber dimes and Mercury dimes.

(Edit- someone pointed out to me that those names and addresses were showing through from the back of the paper, so I had to tweak that image a little.)

Two additional people will win a set of my elongates in this contest. A third person in this contest will win a sampling of the QuarterMaster’s own handiwork.

More on the prizes below, but first, I’ll let you look at the Quarter Notes brochure, which describes some of what our Mystery Man gets up to in his spare time, when he’s not anonymously sending large-denomination US currency to strangers.

OK, so you’re wondering about the prizes. Nope, sorry, that C-note ain’t one of them- it’s mine- :greedy: but it will help make this and future giveaways possible. Thank you, QuarterMaster. I pledge to "pay it forward".

So here is our first prize. It is nine (9) counterstamped US Statehood quarters, created by the QuarterMaster at Quarter Notes, Ltd. himself. (There are eight different pieces plus a duplicate Delaware, which you can swap or give to someone else to get them interested.)

To win these, be the first to answer this question:

Question #1: What kind of horse is on the Delaware quarter?

It's a trick question. Google will probably give you the literal answer- "a thoroughbred racehorse", but that's not the answer I'm looking for.

    The coins are:

    (2) 1999-P Delaware: "HORSE IN A ROUND"
    (1) 1999-P Georgia: "500M PEOPLE"
    (1) 1999-P Connecticut: "HAD A BLAST IN MIANUS"
    (1) 2005-P Kansas: "FLATTEN THE CURVE"
    (1) 2005-P West Virginia: "MADE DURING QUARANTINE"
    (1) 2006-D South Dakota: "SPEED UP"
    (1) 2007-P Wyoming: "RED CHINA RED HANDS"
    (1) 2008-P Hawaii: "GET LEI'D"

This is by no means a complete set of these. There are many other messages out there. Sometimes the cryptic messages in the counterstamps relate to the state on the host coin. Others are apparently referencing the COVID-19 pandemic, as you can see. Have fun figuring out the clues!

Also, the QuarterMaster seems to have a knack for finding your address if you frequent certain coin forums, and may send you a coin, unsolicited. Do not be put off by this. You should ALWAYS open mail from Quarter Notes, because occasionally, the QuarterMaster has been known to not only insert a counterstamped quarter in there, but sometimes a crisp new piece of US paper money as well! That sort of "junk mail" I don't object to at all!

So who is the "QuarterMaster"- this shadowy figure behind all the wacky counterstamps? Is he an artist, a saint, or a madman? Perhaps some strange combination of all those? Who knows? Who cares? It's all good fun. :)

Try to find these in circulation- or maybe more will appear your mailbox, if you post online about how interesting you find them. The QuarterMaster seems to like reactions from his audience. (I truly have no idea who he is, BTW.)

Now, the QuarterMaster also specified that I am to give away two sets of my elongated coins here as well (in addition to the three that are going to the individuals named on the back of the letter, who will see them soon).

The first two people to answer the next questions will get a set of these.

(4-piece type set) Lord Marcovan custom elongated coins, 2019 & 2020, rolled out on a Wheat cent, an Indian cent, a Barber dime, and a Mercury dime

To win a set of these, be the first person to answer one of the following two questions:

Question #2: What is my favorite Statehood quarter design?

Question #3: What is my second-favorite Statehood quarter design?

One prize per member. Also, since the QuarterMaster was too kind, and grossly overpaid for the sets he bought (as usual), I'll be thinking of a way to sweeten the pot for the next regular monthly giveaway (#48), when that is posted in November. As of this typing, the current monthly giveaway (#45) is still open for entries.

This is just a wild guess on my part but, since you live in Georiga, I'm going to say that it is your favorite statehood quarter design.

I think our GA quarter is a competent design, but nope, it's not in my top two.

You may guess again, after someone else has.

Multiple guesses are allowed, as long as they are non-consecutive (i.e., as long as someone else gets a guess in between your guesses).

My favorites are Nebraska, Oklahoma and Nevada. My guess is that yours is one of these also, so I will say Oklahoma is your favorite.

Governor Rodney probably rode several horses on his ride, he was the owner of horses, but the trip was too long for a single horse to ride continuously. In this early time, they were called thoroughbreds, but the breeding was not nearly as advanced as today's scientific methods.

I would say your favourite quarter is Arizona

Nope, not Oklahoma. But you may guess again after someone else has posted a guess. (Ah, someone has- so go right ahead.)

No, but that is a nice one, and perhaps my fourth favorite.

You may guess again after someone else has had a chance.

I wouldn't be surprised if your favorite design is a state on the East Coast. My second guess is that your favorite design is Rhode-Island.

    Not Rhode Island.

And the answer to the horse question is not scientific. More a whimsical, jokey sort of answer. Yet still true enough. Think in riddles- not science.

    ...how obvious, a quarter horse.

Boom! Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Hope I didn't give it away with that clue.

Yep- the answer is a "dad joke". But, being a dad, I am somewhat of a connoisseur of dad jokes.

    @Kentucky wins the counterstamped quarters!

But there are still two sets of the elongated coins to be had...

Boom! Another winner. The Nevada Statehood quarter is my favorite design from the series. I just think it is elegant looking, with those horses and the sun rays.

That still leaves someone to guess my second-favorite Statehood quarter.

Then I'll guess North Dakota, is your second favorite as the composition is somewhat similar.

Not North Dakota. (Hmm... I don't remember offhand what it looks like... I need to go look it up...)

Edit: Aha. OK. Nice design, but not the answer.

    How about the Connecticut?

    Boom! Our final winner!

The CT state quarter is my second favorite. I like coins with trees on them. I’m not sure why. Maybe because I like trees. I guess it is as simple as that.
