well this coin has a die crack running into the U the coin has seen some use but as it's an error coin it's a keeper
It's a keeper for the year! I love to collect thep pfennigs. I found a couple coin roll hunting but the one I cherish the most in my collection I found in the hotel lobby when I was on my first trip to Rome. Not worth anthing other than face value however it's important to me. Your coin is very nice! Thanks for sharing!
Die cracks aren't unusual for the German Empire 5 and 10 pennig coins. I have about 10-15 minor die cracks on coins in my date/mm sets. Also see them running from the eagle's feathers to the rim.
The Germans were very frugal when it came to using up their dies. Besides the die cracks like the ones described above there are lots of over dates. Most interesting are the coins struck with old proof dies as business strikes after the proof run was completed. The late Alan Herbert spent decades describing these in World Coin News and other publications.
