Dangling four die marker. Smooth satin finish. Details details details. Polishing marks between the F and D of Half Dollar. Beautiful coin.
Unfortunately, it would seem that your coin has been harshly cleaned. Moreover, the 1964 SMS set is not an official issue. There is absolutely no chance that your coin is an SMS issue.
I am sorry to be the third one to reveal that your half is not an SMS. And definitely not satin. Sorry
okay what does an sms kennedy look like? What about the thousands of die polishing lines? And the smooth finish? The wire rim?
You can see one and read about it on this site: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1964-50c-sms/6844
I would concur with the rest of the people. It is not an sms '64 kennedy. I took a browse on your youtube channel and there are a lot of clips that you have that reference a "satin" coin. The 1964 SMS Kennedy shown here ---> https://coinweek.com/prices/rare-1964-sms-kennedy-half-dollar-sells-47k/ doesn't appear to be anything close to what you are referencing. It would be a service to the numismatic community of you relabeled those video's.
Well, .......................................Not really lol. Glad to hear from your @cpm9ball ! I haven't been on in a while. I don't want to hijack the thread however I will gladly accept your critique of my future youtube videos when they come out! Hope your doing well!
All of the known SMS 1964 halves were found in the estate of a former mint director in the 80s, sold to a prominent dealer, and slabbed a few years later. None were circulation finds. Your coin is harshly polished and shows some wear, so if it was a SMS, it would have had to have been purchased at an auction, removed from the slab, spent, circulated, harshly cleaned, and then you found it in circulation. not a very likely scenario The die chip/defect on the 4 has also been found on business strikes, so that alone isn't confirmation.
Yep...It's confusing to many collectors...I don't like the SMS designation and think it should be SP only. Only a few even exist and most of us will never see one in hand.
