The company I bought it from called it AU/UNC. That is exactly what I think it is. Do you think it would go AU or UNC? BTW, the from is not as red as my pics show. It is a deeper red on the obverse. OH! And I definitely like the strike
2nd last post of the night Thats a nice one. If you can grab it for AU $$$ you did well. It's AU, but should trade into the 60+ range. PM me where you got it, Id like some of that, lol. Goodnight folks
Nice. Very good strike, quality examples like this are scarce. Great detail in the wheat stalks, Lincolns hair, tie and beard look good. Small nick on the obverse O in one at 4 o'clock. Is the color of the obverse a little different different than the reverse? Again nice coin!
The front and back are somewhat different in color but not as dramatic as my pictures. Mos tof the difference is that the front has a fair amount of underlying red but the reverse has none
That is nice. The reverse looks MS no problem. I cant see the jaw or cheek enough to tell if thats wear as I think it is. Either way, that is an awesome coin.
Here is a ling for the same coin listed as AU, and yours looks much nicer than this one. Good job. http://cgi.ebay.com/Choice-AU-1924-...|66:4|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:200
Jack, I agree but the difference in color from the Obverse and Reverse and the extreme shine...especially on the Reverse are of some concern! The coin has the appearance that it may have been lightly bathed in a soap and not thoroughly rinsed off. Frank
Awesome coin. I am jealous!!! I don't personally see any wear. Could take close-ups of the beard and jaw- possible wear there?? but could be weak strike? I'd give it a 62-63. Does have a look of some residue like soap or something. If it were my coin I would do a quick rinse in distilled water- just MHO. Strike is amazing. Congrats
That - "that it may have been lightly bathed in a soap and not thoroughly rinsed off." - look is also what a coin coated with oil can look like after time, and it can get much worse with more time.
Nice coin, I really liked that one. Without having it certified I would call it AU/UNC. It's just one of those coins that I'd have to be on the fence about grade wise & price accordingly if selling it retail. Glad you like it.
The 2nd pics don;t show the rub I saw in the 1st set........UNC liner, nice coin still. Thats a tough date with sharp wheats:thumb:
Your first and second pictures of the obverse seem to show a bit of rub on the forehead and cheek. A high AU is probably correct.
:thumb: :thumb: VERY (and I mean VERY) nice 24-S RLM. I'll say it's a strong AU-58. Very nice example, with a beautiful strike. :thumb: :thumb: Phoenix
Doug, You are right! The oil look (Olive Oil) never crossed my mind when I was trying to remember what may have caused the shiny appearance. Frank
