Cherrypicking is an art where you are matching wits with a numismatic professional; your only advantage is if you know a specific area of numismatics inside and out, because most dealers are generalists in most things with just a couple areas of true mastery each. that is not to say they are unwise to how cherrypicking works and if they think you are trying to cherrypick them they will fight back. Remember you are trying to take financial advantage of someone who buys and sells coins to put food on his table and to send his wife to the spa and his kids to school, so he will see it strictly as taking money away from him. He has a valuable resource (the coin) that he has obtained through his hard labor and you are attempting to take it from him for significantly less than it is worth. That is why you should not bring your cherrypicker's guide out at a table. If you want to bring it with you then just leave it in your bag and check it in a resting area but not at a dealer's table. If you do he will notice and any coin you select to ask a price on he will assume you have found something he missed and either try to figure it out for himself or just jack the price up assuming that it is worth it and then when you pass he will figure it out. Good luck, it is challenging to try to beat the pros, but it is definately possible if you know your series inside and out and know what you are looking for.
